![]() Person A, though, doesn’t accept, due to their feelings for Person B, who’s relief is obvious. Person C asks out Person A, resulting in the other getting upset. Those feelings will be angsty and completely justified. This isn’t specific to childhood friends to lovers, but if your OTP has been in love for a while without acting on it, it’ll hurt. “They’re my best friend! If I start avoiding them out of the blue, they’ll know something’s up and they won’t stop until they figure out what it is and I’ll be done for.”Īnother idea that I think really works with is A and B getting jealous. “Well, I guess you need some time away from them-” “Are you insane? You’ve listened to me for the past few years, right? They don’t love me, not like I love them!” “They don’t love me, C, I thought I could get over them but it isn’t working!” (This works really well if A or B is incredibly dramatic.) Person C is shoved in the middle of all of this and has been listening to both sides complain about the other not loving them back for years. A and B are both in love with each other but they haven’t realized the other reciprocates this feeling. One of my favorite ideas is commonly used but works wonderfully if it is written well enough: oblivious pining. So, without further ado, here’s Divya’s Guide to Writing Childhood Friends to Lovers! (And yeah, some of these prompts you can tweak to work for other tropes.) One of the windows in A’s house faces into B’s house, so they use it as an excuse to eat meals together (if it faces into the kitchen) / watch TV together (if it faces into the living room). This trope is a personal favorite of mine, and I *may* have used a lot of brain energy last night when I was trying to fall asleep to come up with enough ideas for a proper post.A is a real estate agent who’s been trying to sell the house next to B’s for years.A’s appliances keep breaking so they keep asking B to fix them since “it’s cheaper than a handyman.”.B is an expert at said instrument and texts A advice and feedback. A has taken up a new instrument and B can hear them practising.B, who is useless at gardening, asks A to teach them how to garden (mostly as an excuse to see A hot and sweaty in the sun). A takes pride in their garden, filling it with flowers and bushes.A drops by B’s house for a few minutes when a storm hits, trapping them both inside for as long as the storm lasts.Upon discovering that A hasn’t seen movies that B considers “absolute classics”, they start a routine of A coming over every week to watch one.B didn’t anticipate running into A, fresh out of the shower with wet hair ans a towel, and they are very okay with it. A’s shower breaks so B let’s A use theirs until it gets fixed.B, convinced A is upset or crazy, breaks down the door and demands to know what’s going on. A realises they’re in love with B and quarantines themself in their room until it wears off.Until one day after a particularly bad fight with A, and A can’t help but yearn for that domestic gesture. Though A has never asked them too, B always makes A breakfast with their own.A complains about B walking around with barely any clothes on, starting a game of chicken where B walks around with less and less clothes. They decide to treat themselves to some new IKEA furniture, only to bicker and fight while building it.A leaves sticky notes with condescending reminders on them (“Dirty dishes go into the sink, not beside it”) for B, who replies with equally petty stick notes of their own. ![]() A’s bed breaks and the couch hurts their back, leaving them with one (reluctant) sleeping alternative: B’s bed.A makes a big show of pretending to go on dates and even fakes sex noises in their room to convince B they’re getting lucky. A hasn’t been on dates in a while and B makes fun of them for it.A keeps sending away B’s dates when they show up at the door, totally not out of jealousy.A managed to snag it first but when they go home for a weekend, B swaps the rooms around. ![]() A and B fight over who gets the bigger room. ![]()
